Planar Chaos focused on the present, referencing previous Magic: The Gathering cards, but changing them in some way, such as changing their color or shifting their permanent type. Time Spiral focused on the past, and is laden with references to previous Magic: the Gathering sets. It is set on the plane of Dominaria, the first time that that plane had been visited since 8th Edition. Time Spiral is a Magic: The Gathering expert-level block consisting of the expansion sets Time Spiral (October 6, 2006), Planar Chaos (February 2, 2007), and Future Sight (May 4, 2007). Here, it acts as a mana ramp, chump blocker and card draw all in one. Meanwhile, the creature Solemn Simulacrum is a classic card in not only Commander (where it's good for mana fixing), but also in blue Tron builds. Next up is Vanquisher's Banner, a classic "lord" effect that boosts all creatures of the chosen type while also drawing cards when their spells are cast - a Commander must-have. This timeshifted version goes for just over $21 on MTG Goldfish. This can be devastating in many Commander decks, such as Yarok and Purphoros, God of the Forge. Then, there's Panharmonicon, a powerhouse from the Kaladesh block that duplicates ETB triggers for creatures and artifacts alike. This timeshifted version is worth $55, showing just how desirable this card can be, especially in a novelty frame. Chalice of the Void is the headline among these cards, notorious for shutting down entire decks in Constructed formats with its counter-based ability. The artifacts of the timeshifted collection are a motley bunch, ranging from Commander goodies to brutal sideboard or mainboard options in Modern and Legacy. Young Pyromancer is sometimes considered a peer of Tarmogoyf, Snapcaster Mage and other powerful two-drop creatures, generating many Elemental tokens in spell-heavy decks (such as Delver of Secrets builds and Mardu builds). This timeshifted version is worth just under $11. This card generates massive card advantage when overloaded, destroying all unfriendly artifacts in one fell swoop (especially in Commander). Vandalblast, meanwhile, is a powerhouse sorcery made with Izzet League technology, featuring the overload mechanic. Right now, its timeshifted card is worth just under $39. That's always valuable, but best of all, Kiki-Jiki can combo with creatures such as Zealous Conscripts and Restoration Angel to make infinite tokens. This 2/2 Goblin was introduced in the Kamigawa block, a legendary five-drop with haste that can tap to make a token copy of another creature. Right now, it's worth $8 in timeshifted form.Ī handful of red cards stand out, with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker being the most valuable and notable red card by far. Then, there's the matter of Sanguine Bond, a staple card for black-based lifegain decks in Commander, for commanders such as Oloro, Obzedat, Anowon, Erebos and Edgar Markov. That character hails from the older Magic stories, and thus his timeshifted card (valued at around $32) is a no-brainer. Yawgmoth, Thran Physician's original card was a recent one, finally putting the infamous Yawgmoth character in card form in true Phyrexia style. It can effectively shut down graveyard strategies in any format, from the Dredge deck of Modern to reanimator commanders such as Sedris, the Traitor King or Meren of Clan Nel Toth (and it can be cast for free in the opening hand). Leyline of the Void is worth even more at $34 on MTG Goldfish. Right now, the timeshifted edition of Dismember is worth $10. Modern decks love to put this card in the sideboard. Dismember is a noteworthy removal spell from the New Phyrexia set, since it can be paid with life instead of black mana to give a creature -5/-5 for the turn. The black cards of the timeshifted collection are also looking good, and many of them are essential for Modern, Legacy and Commander.
